RRP £160 | VIEW OFFER Sizes S-3XL | Colours Fiesta/Black, Black/Asphalt, Delph Blue/Black | Waterproof guarantee? Yes, three years
The SensorDry Pro is the sort of waterproof jacket lots of club golfers actually need.
Firstly, it has a very realistic price, so you won’t be too gutted if it doesn’t see too much action on the golf course. A brushed lining gives a good degree of comfort, so you won’t get a cold or wet sensation, and the lining also delivers extra warmth, which is particularly useful if you’re happy wearing a waterproof jacket as part of your layered approach to keeping warm on cold winter days.
The SensorDry Pro comes with a three-year waterproof guarantee (at 10,000mm).
RRP £339 | VIEW OFFER Sizes S-4XL | Colours Black/Sharkskin/White, Black/Green/White, White/Navy/Cool Grey, Navy/Red/White | Waterproof guarantee? Yes, lifetime
Galvin Green built their business on mesh-lined waterproof jackets as they were so much better than anything that had come before.
In terms of weight gain, a medium Ace is 179g heavier (453g vs 274g) than the same sized Pac-Lite alternative (both with full zips). The Ace is an excellent multi-purpose outdoor jacket that will keep you dry just as happily on a winter’s walk as it will for 18 holes in soaking conditions.
RRP £150 | VIEW OFFER Sizes S-2XL | Colours Gunmetal Marl/Black, Electric Blue/Silver, Navy/Silver, Black Camo/Silver, Lightning Blue/Black | Waterproof guarantee? Yes, lifetime
Sunderland are waterproof legends, having been in the business for more than 100 years, and the Whisper Pro-Lite is absolute proof that you don’t need to spend a fortune to buy a brilliant waterproof jacket.
Its four-way stretch material means you can go for a fitted cut while not being restricted. The soft-touch fabric is silent to wear and Sunderland guarantee the product waterproof for its lifetime.
RRP £225 | VIEW OFFER Sizes S-2XL | Colours Navy/Black/Bright Red, Black/Charcoal/Lime | Waterproof guarantee? Yes, three years
FootJoy outerwear and apparel has really come on over the last few years. The full-zip HydroTour uses a minimal panel design to reduce bulk and weight, and the four-way stretch fabric ensures zero restriction.
The three-year waterproof warranty (to 20,000mm) is solid and reliable, but if you’re after a waterproof suit, the matching trousers will set you back a further £170.
RRP £140 | VIEW OFFER Sizes S-2XL | Colours Red/Black, Black, Blue/White | Waterproof guarantee? Yes, two years
The Nexlite Flex is outrageously light, it weighs almost nothing. Our small-sized sample tips the scales at less than 200g, which makes it the lightest wearable waterproof we’ve ever come across and you won’t fold a waterproof jacket down smaller.
It’s impressively breathable, really stretchable (ideal in the golf swing) and guaranteed waterproof for two years. If we had to find a criticism it could perhaps benefit from a drawstring at the waist, but it’s a small quibble. For £140 it’s a bargain and undoubtedly one of the best waterproof golf jackets.
RRP £269 | VIEW OFFER Sizes S-4XL | Colours Navy/White, Black/White | Waterproof guarantee? Yes, lifetime
The Aden is created from Gore-Tex Paclite material, which means it’s one of Galvin Green’s lightest jackets.
Thanks to it having a half zip, the Aden weighs in at just 257g, and the only way to go lighter is by choosing one of Galvin’s half-sleeve jackets, such as the Alvin.
A brilliant jacket to have tucked away in your bag for when the heavens open. It won’t weigh you down or take up much space. More suited to on-course wear than off.
RRP £175 | VIEW OFFER Sizes S-3XL | Colours Peacoat, Caviar, Blue Tattoo | Waterproof guarantee? Yes, three years
It’s brilliant to see Callaway using recycled polyester in a good number of their clothing garments in 2021; the StormGuard is constructed from 50% recycled material.
It has a natural, quiet stretch so it’s not infuriatingly noisy to wear, and it’s an excellent multi-purpose option if you’re looking to wear your waterproof jacket away from the course too.
RRP £449 | VIEW OFFER Sizes S-2XL | Colours Black, Atlanta Blue | Waterproof guarantee? Yes, two years
The Gemini is a very clever design from premium golf and ski wear brand Kjus, which is owned by Acushnet (the same business that owns Titleist and FootJoy).
Its reversible design means that with the black side facing out the jacket absorbs 99% of ambient heat, pushing it into the jacket to keep you warm. With the light grey side facing out, 49% of ambient heat is reflected, while the darker side pulls heat away from your body to cool you down.
Kjus say the jacket provides up to a 10.2°F temperature differential. Clever tech – but with an RRP to match.
RRP £289 | VIEW OFFER Sizes S-2XL | Colours Black/Red/White/Cool Grey, Navy/White/Bluebell, Black/White/Sharksin/Green, Cool Grey/White/Sharkskin, Red/White/Navy/Cool Grey, White/Navy/Cool/Red, Navy/White, Navy/White/Cool Grey | Waterproof guarantee? Yes, lifetime
When it comes to winter and weatherproof gear, Galvin Green are among the very best and we’ve been long-time advocates of their waterproof jackets. The Apollo, now into its second season, is among their best.
Incredibly comfortable, lightweight and stretchable, Gore-Tex Paclite Shell fabric ensures you can swing comfortably while staying dry on the golf course. Ideal for laying as the weather turns colder, the Apollo adjusts easily for the perfect fit thanks to velcro cuffs and an adjustable waist.
RRP £289 | VIEW OFFER Sizes S-2XL | Colours Ash Grey/Silver, Ash Grey/Red | Waterproof guarantee? Yes, lifetime
The only waterproof golf jacket you can shake dry… literally. The fabric makes the water bead up and roll off the surface.
The Ashton is one of the lightest waterproofs we’ve ever come across (just 177g in size medium), is totally waterproof and windproof and it rolls up into a tiny package.
You barely know you’re wearing it, it’s extremely breathable, has an adjustable waste and elasticated sleeves and ensures your bag won’t weigh you down this winter.
RRP £130 | VIEW OFFER Sizes XS-2XL | Colours Black, Collegiate Navy | Waterproof guarantee? Yes, limited one-year
adidas might not be the first name most golfers think of when it comes to waterproof clothing, but the Rain.Rdy is a very comfortable and functional choice.
Both waterproof and windproof, it has a regular flex and stretches brilliantly throughout the swing. A drawstring hem allows you to perfect the fit and it will also protect you from the sun’s rays in a summer downpour thanks to UV 50+.
Large front pockets are great for keeping your hands warm on cold or windy days.
RRP £130 | VIEW OFFER Sizes S-2XL | Colours Black/Mechanic Blue, Mod Grey/Black/Red | Waterproof Guarantee? Yes, limited one year
A comparatively fuller cut means the Under Armour is a great choice for less athletically framed golfers. The 2.5-layer fabric is super lightweight, breathable, windproof and waterproof to 10,000mm with fully sealed seams.
Zip pockets ensure you can keep scorecards and your ball dry while keeping your hands warm, and the hem can be adjusted with the drawstring for a perfect fit. We particularly like the snap closure collar and sleeves and the Black/Mechanic Blue colour option which is both stylish and understated.
For a top-of-the-range waterproof, you won’t find better than Galvin Green Archie. A ‘slide and glide’ backer means it slides over other clothing easily if you’re caught in a shower. The fabric is also bluesign approved, so comes from sustainable sources.
Kjus might not be a name you recognise, but the Swiss golf and ski wear company are owned by Acushnet (the owners of Titleist and Footjoy). Strategic stretch panels mean no restriction around the shoulder blades or lower back.
This windproof and waterproof jacket has a three-layer, breathable, construction. An extremely quiet stretch shell moves prevents tension while swinging while the lightweight inner layer provides additional mobility and comfort. A fully seam-sealed construction, hidden waist cinch and adjustable cuffs ensure exceptional protection from the conditions. Looks great off the course, too.

Thanks to a mesh liner, which traps more body heat, the Aaron is Galvin’s warmest waterproof jacket. Front pockets are handy for keeping the chill off fingers. A bluesign stamp confirms the jacket’s produced from sustainable materials.
Ping’s top-of-the-range, lightweight waterproof jacket is guaranteed to 20,000mm just like the very best. Ping sizing has come a long way over the last few years, so expect a very nicely tailored look and fit. There’s a five-year warranty, too.
Rapid Adapt is three golf jackets in one! Quick snap buttons allow you to quickly switch between a regular golf jacket, a 1/2-length golf jacket and a golf vest, depending in the weather conditions. The Hypershield fabric blocks the wind and rain while HyperAdapt tech combines a vent along the back of the shoulders with stretchy fabric for ease of movement in the golf swing.

See the Hydroknit as a waterproof jumper and you won’t go far wrong. The cut and feel are very much like a traditional sweater, which is great for golfers who don’t like wearing waterproof jackets. Three-year waterproof guarantee, too.
The Ultradry Jacket is 10k waterproof (a 10k rating means it takes a 10,000mm cylinder of water over a 1 sq. inch piece to penetrate that fabric). It includes a waterproof front zip and zipable front hand pockets. Contrast colour blocking on the arms, torso and zip make it stand out, while the adjustable velcro cuffs and ventilated back ensure comfort. Matching trousers are also available.
FootJoy’s HydroLite V2 golf rain jacket boasts an all new fabric which is 15 per cent lighter and 20% more stretchable than its predecessor. It is 20k waterproof (a 20k rating means it takes a 20,000mm cylinder of water over a 1 sq. inch piece to penetrate that fabric) and the XDWR (Xtreme durable waterproof repllent) finish to bead water away. A three-year warranty provides peace of mind and there are matching trousers for those wanting a full suit.
The PX6 has a silky soft feel, which means it’s quieter to wear than harsher fabric models. The PX6 is ultra-lightweight and thanks to ProQuip being waterproof specialists, they’re happy to back their garment up with a lifetime guarantee.
Sunderland are legends when it comes to waterproofs and they’re so confident in their product that the Whisperdry is guaranteed waterproof for the lifetime of the fabric. A very lightweight, breathable option.
RELATED: Best Golf Mid Layers
A cracking three-layer, breathable, waterproof jacket that, considering the three-year waterproof guarantee, seems like excellent value for money. A chest pocket is also really handy for keeping your scorecard dry.
Having a do-it-all waterproof golf jacket is no longer as crucial as it was. Thanks to a three-year waterproof warranty and a decent price tag, the Downton is perfect to have alongside a warm, insulated and lightweight wind jacket as part of your winter wardrobe.
Do I really need a waterproof golf jacket?
When Galvin Green waterproofs arrived on the scene, masses of golfers happily paid for the best waterproof jackets they could get their hands on, and more money was spent on staying dry on the golf course than ever before.
But now, more than a decade later, many golfers looking at buying waterproofs are asking themselves how much golf they actually play in the rain. Most only don a waterproof jacket for a tiny percentage of the time they spend on the golf course, so they need to think carefully about whether a multi-functional, water-resistant, wind or insulation jacket would get more wear.
Galvin Green say their windproof and water-resistant Interface-1 jackets are typically worn for 95% of rounds played. For many, teaming one with a less expensive, less widely used waterproof jacket is very a really sensible option.

Which Gore-Tex to buy: Mesh-lined, Paclite or Stretch to a C-Knit?
Waterproof maestros Galvin Green give a brilliant example of how, as with drivers and irons, a single model just isn’t enough to satisfy everyone.
Galvin’s standard mesh-lined jackets are a fraction more bulky, a little less breathable and a little warmer, but those traits make them a good multi-purpose option away from the course too.
Paclite models specifically target lightweight performance (there’s no mesh liner), they have the smallest pack size and will take up the least amount of space in your golf bag.
The C-Knit is Galvin’s most costly waterproof, designed to combine lightweight performance with comfort. A C-Knit backer inside barely impacts on breathability while giving a silky-smooth and cosy feeling, which Paclite models can’t compete with.
